MY Story.
Katherine Champlin Rice MA, LPC
Central to my practice are decades of devotion in three specific areas: my therapy practice, my work with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and my spirituality. Each of these pillars require human vulnerability as a vehicle for the expression of, and connection to, source – which is our true strength and vehicle for growth.
I am honored to have 30 years of experience working in the field of mental health.
The first 15 of those years were spent as supervising therapist in forensic/court-ordered psychiatric care. My specialty was care for those living with severe and persistent mental health issues– folks who had few resources and had otherwise fallen through the cracks of society. As part of an internationally recognized vision of total and complete recovery from mental illness through an interdisciplinary approach, I witnessed first-hand the transformative power of routine, and the magic of the ordinary.
I then spent spent another 15 years steeped in work of hospice, mental health consulting in nursing homes, and providing therapeutic support for caregivers and loved ones supporting those transitioning into nursing home care, or through the journey of cancer.
Inside every hurt, there is healing. I believe that in our depths, we know our wholeness and we know our needs. When outbursts, isolation & angst become the norm, and genuine connection feels difficult or unusual, it is in these moments, when a safe space to process can make all the difference.
As a widowed single mom, I know this directly. I practice Depth Psychology and will hold space for you as you are. With decades of experience, I recognize how our greatest sorrows & difficulties hold seeds of wisdom for our life's next steps. In this collaborative approach, your best version will develop so that you may blossom & enjoy your life's fullest expression.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
I received my Master's Degree in Somatic Psychology, from Naropa University, and wrote my 350-page thesis establishing Integrative Theory and Approach to Working Through Resistance to Treatment.
I have training and certification in the following modalities: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing); Parts Therapy (healing occurs through the many layers of our being); Trauma-informed therapies (which are strength and solution-based, recognizing that we are able to finish developmental milestones and experience more joyful and fulfilling lives when we supportively recognize, listen to, and respect the voices of our many layers); and Moving Truth (a Jungian based Depth Psychology.)
I also hold a BFA from The Juilliard School in dance with minor in music.
Following my undergraduate years, I spent two years at a spiritual retreat. It was during this time that my LOVE different cultures flourished. I also discovered my love for working with people who feel alienated from our current culture, or even alienated from themselves.
